FAQ
Types and styles of wood flooring
We offer two main types of real wood flooring to suit your home’s needs: Engineered and solid wood. Engineered wood flooring is constructed with layers of timber topped with a real wood surface, this style is exceptionally stable and is ideal for areas with fluctuating temperatures or humidity. Perfect for kitchens, hallways and rooms with underfloor heating.
On the other hand, solid wood flooring is crafted from a single piece of hardwood. It offers a highly authentic feel underfoot and can be sanded and refinished multiple times for lifelong beauty. While this is the more expensive wood flooring choice, it can last decades.
Styles within our collection include:
-
Plank wood flooring - A timeless and versatile option available in standard, wide and extra-wide formats.
-
Herringbone wood flooring - A classic parquet pattern ideal for creating a premium, heritage-inspired look.
-
Chevron wood flooring - Sleek angled boards for a sophisticated, modern aesthetic.
-
Versailles panels – Intricate, interwoven patterns inspired by historic French chateaux, perfect for adding luxury and character to any space.

What rooms are suitable for wood flooring?
Wood flooring is incredibly versatile and works beautifully in most areas of the home. It’s durable enough for high-footfall areas like the lounge, hallways, and dining rooms. It also looks stunning in bedrooms, home offices, conservatories and basements.
With kitchens, we recommend laying engineered wood down as it is more resistant to temperature and moisture changes. Wood flooring isn’t suitable for bathrooms as it's not waterproof, but if you do want to have the wood look, why not try bathroom luxury vinyl instead?
What wood flooring thickness and width do I need?
Choosing the right dimensions depends on the look you want and the type of subfloor:
Thickness options:
-
10mm or 14mm - Ideal for renovations and underfloor heating.
-
15mm to 18mm - Great all-rounders offering strong durability.
-
20mm - Best for heavy-traffic areas or long-term refinishing (typically solid wood).
Widths:
-
Narrow - Creates a traditional or parquet-style feel.
-
Standard - Versatile for all room sizes.
-
Wide / Extra Wide - Enhances spacious rooms and highlights natural wood grain.

Can wood flooring work with underfloor heating?
Yes, engineered wood flooring is often the best option due to its dimensional stability. When installed correctly with a compatible underlay, it performs brilliantly with most underfloor heating systems. Solid wood flooring can’t be used with underfloor heating, so be sure to read the product descriptions carefully. Our team can advise on the best solution during your home consultation.
