FAQ

Why choose plank laminate flooring?

Plank laminate offers several practical advantages:

Authentic wood appearance: Modern laminate planks feature high-definition printed and textured surfaces that closely replicate real timber grain patterns, knots, and colour variations. You get the look of real wood at a fraction of the cost.

Durability and scratch resistance: Our laminate flooring planks meet AC3 to AC5 durability ratings for moderate to heavy domestic use. The protective wear layer resists scratches, scuffs, and fading from UV exposure.

Simple maintenance: Unlike real wood, plank laminate flooring requires no sanding, oiling, or specialist treatments. Regular sweeping and occasional damp mopping keep floors looking their best.

Water-resistance: Many of our laminate floor planks feature water-resistant cores and sealed edges that handle everyday spills when cleaned up promptly.

DIY-friendly installation: Installing laminate plank flooring is quick and easy. The click-lock system doesn’t require glue or nails.

Vinyl plank flooring vs laminate planks

Understanding the difference between vinyl plank flooring and laminate helps you pick the right floor for your space. Laminate features a HDF core with a realistic photographic layer, offering a firm feel and authentic wood sound underfoot. In comparison, vinyl uses PVC layers and is 100% waterproof, ideal for bathrooms and utility rooms. Laminate, especially with embossed finishes, delivers a more natural wood look and is often more scratch-resistant. For living rooms and bedrooms, laminate flooring planks typically offer better value and style.

Plank laminate flooring sizes

Laminate floor planks come in various widths to suit different room proportions and design preferences. We stock wide plank laminate flooring, measuring 190mm to 240mm in width. This creates a contemporary, spacious feel that works well in larger rooms and reduces the number of visible joints across your floor for a more seamless appearance.

Narrow plank laminate flooring ranges from 120mm to 150mm wide. It is well-suited to traditional interiors and smaller spaces, as the narrower boards make compact rooms feel proportionately balanced rather than overwhelmed by large-format planks.

How thick are laminate planks?

Thickness impacts both comfort and durability. Our laminate planks range from 7mm to 12mm thick. Thinner options suit budget projects and keep floor height low. Mid-range thickness (around 10mm) delivers an ideal balance of stability, acoustics, and value for most homes. Premium plank laminate flooring at 12mm thickness offers the most authentic, solid feel, with improved sound insulation, deeper embossing, and a more realistic wood finish.

How long are laminate floor planks?

Most standard laminate planks measure 1200mm to 1380mm in length, offering balanced proportions for typical rooms. Long plank laminate flooring ranges from 1800mm up to 2400mm, creating a seamless, flowing look with fewer joints. These boards suit hallways and open-plan spaces. The plank pattern defines the printed woodgrain design, with long plank laminate options requiring careful planning to stagger joints for a natural finish.

Plank laminate colours and finishes

Our plank laminate flooring range offers a wide selection of colours and finishes to suit every interior style. Choose white plank laminate flooring in light, Scandinavian-inspired tones to brighten minimalist spaces. Plank oak effect laminate flooring remains a firm favourite, with options from warm honey and mid-brown to rich amber shades. Grey laminate planks range from soft silver-grey to deep charcoal, providing a modern, versatile finish. For added warmth, explore beige, natural, and brown laminate flooring planks, from light walnut to deep espresso.

Finish choices include embossed finishes for realistic texture, low-sheen matt finishes for a contemporary look, reflective high gloss plank laminate flooring, and character-rich brushed finishes that recreate traditional timber charm.

Which rooms are laminate plank flooring suited to?

Due to its durability, water-resistance and realistic wood appearance, laminate plank flooring performs well in most rooms in the house:

Living rooms: The comfortable underfoot feel and authentic appearance of laminate planks create inviting, stylish living spaces.

Bedrooms: Plank laminate provides a warm, natural aesthetic without the maintenance requirements of real wood. Its quieter performance compared to hard tile makes it bedroom-appropriate when installed with quality underlay.

Dining rooms: Scratch-resistant laminate flooring planks withstand chair movement and dropped cutlery better than many alternatives.

Hallways and stairs: Durable laminate floor planks rated AC4 or AC5 handle the constant foot traffic in entrance areas. Water-resistant options suit hallways near external doors.

Kitchens: Water-resistant laminate planks work in kitchens with prompt spill cleanup. Avoid installing standard laminate near dishwashers or sinks where standing water may occur.

Consider our luxury vinyl tile plank flooring for areas requiring 100% waterproof performance.

How to lay laminate plank flooring

Before installing laminate plank flooring, ensure the subfloor is clean and level, correcting any uneven areas over 3mm per metre. Allow laminate planks to acclimatise in the room for 48 hours. Once the underlay is fitted neatly, fit the floor using the click system, starting from the longest, straightest wall. Leave a 10mm expansion gap and stagger joints by at least 300mm. Finish with scotia or skirting.

How to replace a laminate floor plank

How to replace a laminate floor plank depends on its location in your floor. At room edges, remove the skirting and carefully unclick boards from the nearest wall to swap the plank. Replacing a laminate floor plank in the centre involves cutting out the damaged section, trimming the locking edge, and securing the new board with adhesive. For larger repairs, our professional fitters can replace laminate floor plank sections and colour-match from our range.
